City of Portland's Public Works Procurement Day that was held on November 21, 2024 showcased nearly $1 billion in infrastructure project opportunities for the upcoming year
Portland's Public Works leadership, including Deputy City Administrator Priya Dhanapal and Chief Procurement Officer Sylvester Donelson, collaborated with bureau leaders and project managers from three major city bureaus - the Bureau of Environmental Services, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, and the Portland Water Bureau - during the Public Works Procurement Day.
The event facilitated discussions between COBID-certified contractors, city personnel, and community representatives about the city’s contracting system and unveiled numerous construction bid opportunities for 2025. These projects span essential services like providing high-quality drinking water, maintaining a robust transportation network, and ensuring efficient wastewater and stormwater management systems.
Given the city’s oversight of billions of dollars in infrastructure investments, attendees emphasized the importance of managing these resources effectively to elevate the standard of living for Portland residents. Equally crucial was the focus on supporting small, minority-owned, and emerging businesses, ensuring they are well-positioned to participate in these projects and contribute to the city’s growth.
Dhanapal highlighted the city’s dedication to empowering diverse small and medium enterprises, including those led by women and underrepresented entrepreneurs. She expressed confidence in fostering equitable access to opportunities, aiming to bridge systemic gaps and enable all communities to thrive.
Aligned with Portland's commitment to COBID contracting objectives, the event served as a platform for networking, education, and resource access. This initiative underscores the city's goal of empowering diverse businesses to engage more effectively in its procurement process, thereby advancing equity and inclusion in public works projects.
